Very nice - a critically important feature for VS2010 that Microsoft judiciously decided to leave out! Well done and VERY smooth. Loss of 1 star for lack of configurability, resulting in some annoying unintended motion which could easily be avoided by adjusting settings.
I have an Evoluent ergonomic mouse. Even post-SP1 productivity power tools with middle-click scrolling enabled wasn't "seeing" my mouse's middle click, regardless of which driver I used for it (Evoluent W7 x64 or third-party x64 driver).
This extension made middle-click scrolling work in VS2010 at last - thank you!!
I seriously can't even begin to believe all the ridiculous things that were removed from VS2010's UI. I've worked in VS for years, and I'd never felt the need to start downloading loads of extensions until this week. Well, anyway... thanks a ton for fixing yet another piece of the UI that should've worked natively! Now that we're having to move to 2010, without you guys working on these mods, I would simply go insane.
Awesome! Microsoft was incredibly stupid for not including this. When you ask $1000+ for a product that is basically a giant text editor, it should really have the most basic features for... you know.. working with text.
I've just found your extension and love it however I would really like to be able to trigger smooth scrolling with a keyboard button as using the mouse wheel is triggers my RSI (though single click is which better than wheeling)
So yeah any chance of a configurable keyboard button to replicate the effect of a middle click?
Thanks in advance.
As I read it while searching the web, it was in the RC of vs2012, which is why I thought it'd be there in the final as well. It turns out the RC of vs2012 came with the productivity tools preinstalled on it probably, because now you can just download them and install them and have the middle mouse scroll available. It's for download here: http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/3a96a4dc-ba9c-4589-92c5-640e07332afd
This plugin is great, but this new feature makes it worse. I wonder if you could somehow make it optional. With this feature, too much pressure accidentally while mousewheel scrolling causes the cursor to change to smoothscroll, and it interferes with what I was trying to do. This is mainly a problem when scrolling long distances with the wheel. Thanks.
Emil2000: My mouse is fine. And yes, distributable software SHOULD be designed to compensate for different hardware characteristics and user preferences. Even Apple acknowledges that.
Kinetic Scroll (http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/7860a6a7-d50c-488c-8bb5-e99d8ed057d2) also acknowledges the need for flexibility and did a darn good job implementing it, but I don't really like that it is geared toward "flick" motions.
This plugin also does not reset the scroll state when changing editor tabs, and so now when scrolling is sticky, you will have a surprise when returning to the original tab.
Hi! Great Work There!!
i wonder if you can add support to allow for mouse wheel scrolling without the need to middle click at all. it will be nice if the beautiful smooth scrolling can totally replace the default mouse wheel scrolling (which is really bad anyway. developers of our time should not have to bear with this jerky scrolling anymore!! I wish some kind soul in MS can put smooth scroll into all their products..)
Thanks for the feedback, I'll look in to replacing the scrolling, but when i do that, I'll make it optional, because i personally like the jerky scrolling to scroll really fast. I hope it's even possible to replace it, but i'll try :).
