I really like the idea of this extension, and I would love to change this review to 5 stars someday soon. First of all, I love the analytics you guys present, even the free version has great information.

My complaint is the lockups. It's meant to be a productivity tool, but it seems to completely lock up VS at least once a day, and maybe 2 or 3 times a day it will lock up for a good 5-10 minutes at a time. The problem is, I never know if it's a permanent lockup or not and I never want to kill it if I don't have to - so I'll wait 15 - 20 minutes before finally killing it.

VS just sits there with "Codealike is sending activities" in the status bar. I see this message several times in a day and it usually works fine, but that one or two times a day is a deal breaker. Can't this run in the background somehow on a thread that doesn't affect the VS UI?

Thank you, I look forward to future versions!

PS, regarding the post by szandras2524 about the empty guid: the first time I ran it I had a GUID, the second time it was empty for me, too. I retried a few times and finally the guid came back. Definitely a bug, but it somehow resolved itself.

Hi Adam,

We do not remove the "Codealike is sending activities" from the status bar because we do not want to freeze it and prevent other important notifications. Therefore, even if you see the message, it doesn't mean we are actually in control at that moment. This report at least gives me a warning that we may have to do so (at least in order to be able to pinpoint the cause of a problem).

Most of the activity happens in background threads, except when we are forced to interact with the Visual Studio API, basically collect statistics (which we are also working to make faster for huge files).

Having said that we will certainly investigate, because we haven't seen anything like it before, neither got any report that even resembles it.

Can you send us a ticket through I would need some information regarding your environment (and some data we never send to the server, but we can use in times like this).

Last update slows down the solution.
I would give this a zero star if I could as it kills my productivity instantly.

We are deeply sorry about that. We give priority to any performance issue because we value our users time as if it were our own.

Can you contact us by mail at with your username (facts link would do also) and which version of Visual Studio you are running?

Interesting product - obviously has some on a lot since others reviewed it - I am finding the dev team highly responsive to any issues I find and suggestions - looking forward to seeing what metrics look like over a period of time with different projects!

I'm in the same boat as DeathCorps69. I would really like to try this, but it seems that I cannot log in with any of the providers, and logging in through also fails (I have seen that cat picture more than 30 times in the last 6 hours). Is something wrong again? Sad to see that Codealike seems to have fallen off the face of the earth (No updates, comment, news, tweets, or Facebook messages, that I could find, for a long time).

Same situation as with DeathCorps69: If I can at least log in once, I will surely rate this higher (It looks amazing from what I have been able to see).

We are really sorry about the problem.

It took us some time to fix the reliability issues. We also provided a common request so now you can also use a Codealike account instead of social providers.

As much as I like the idea of Codealike I can't bring myself to rate this by how useful it "can" be. This issue is whenever I log into Visual Studio, Codealike refuses to sign in 99% of the time giving a picture of a cat saying I can't log in for some unknown reason and it's really frustrating. If there is a solution or a fix I would be happy to rate this higher, but until then I cannot. I am running VS11 Ultimate on windows 8 x64 and 7 x64.

Please, try now. We had an issue with our hosting provider. Sorry for the inconvenience. Let us know if it's working ok for you. Regards!

Looks like it will be very useful!
Let's see results soon.

It slows my solution even after the update. All other windows are behind this window and its very odd.

This tool is really great!

Thanks! What do you like the most about Codealike? Do you have any suggestions?

by Alex Pearlstein | August 16 2012

I really like where the tool is heading, but it really impacts my system. As my project has grown, so has some unresponsiveness. I haven't tried it with a small new project yet.

Despite that fact, I still do enable it during some of my current project aspects. I'm interested to see the end numbers for my project.

Thanks Alex! Can you please update to the last version? We've included several performance enhancements lately. Thanks again!

by Doug Honeycutt | July 31 2012

Connecting fails repeatedly when logging in from multiple solutions. If you keep retrying it eventually succeeds - not an issue with a single solution open. Otherwise it's a pretty neat idea, with some really great metrics and a sexy web page design.

Thanks for your review Doug! We really appreciate it. (I mean... REALLY!)
Just for you to know, we've fixed that issue a couple of weeks ago. Let me know if that works for you as expected now. Thanks again!
