Dotspine provides you a graphic modeler to easily design and populate taxonomy tree. Then you can export them as XML files to be proceeded by PowerShell and target SharePoint 2010.
I have to agree with exnilo's comments from 2012. This is a good tool for both Business Administrators and SharePoint Administrators. Very surprised that this is a free project.
Can you give me a hint?
I installed it (1.0 and afterwards 1.2) in VS (2010 Ultimate), created an empty project (Visual C# / Windows / Empty Project), added the metadata item to the project, dropped TermStore etc icons to the metadata item canvas. As discribed on this site and also in the video. I repeated it many times.
But: In the popup menu (right-click on the TermStore symbol) the commands "Generate Office Documents" and "Export taxonomy to XML" are always disabled. Only "Import taxonomy from XML" is enabled.
Is there any reason why or when these options are disabled?
p.s.: Office 2010 32bit is also installed on Win2008 incl. Sp2010.
Merci!
Hello iWork,
Nice to see you use our tool. According to me you are right clicking on the shape of the TermStore instead of right clicking within an empty space of the design surface.
Try it and let me know if it solve your issue.
Enjoy designing taxonomy.
Hi,
is there any way to include a property in the xml generated in order to define if a termset is open or closed? (to give the user the possibility of adding terms by himself)
thanks
It can be done within Word file. One can merge all your terms within a Word document to structure it as you want with simple copy/paste then import it into the model.
Regarding the data ownership we prefer that each taxonomy got its own life cycle and instead of using the system provided by Sharepoint 2010 we promote to use the Free taxonomy Editor to define two complete structure. Of course within the word file you can duplicate (copy/paste) one structure into the other.
You can use the Excel template of your default culture to identify as many synonyms or acronyms as you want for a single key.
We will produce a video soon.
