Excellent tool, perfect for those who dont have money for R#

by ales_ | January 26 2014

there is some problem with language specific characters in Visual Studio menu. In Czech VS2012:
original: NÁPOVĚDA (HELP)
should be: Nápověda
VSCommands: NÁpovĚDa

Others are: TÝM Tým TÝm (TEAM), NÁSTROJE Nástroje NÁStroje (TOOLS)
If I switch to English, all is OK.

Awesome extension :)

the only feature I want is that the Code Block End Tagger is awesome however it is bad that it is not shown only on demand.
What I want is ones I go to the closing block then to see the hint what was the opening one... instead of the way it is now which adds to much info into my awesome code ;)

Thank you for the suggestion!
Next release will have few more display options for Code Block End Tagger so this should improve shortly.

I needed this for quite some time. This is like a microwave - once you use it, you cannot live without it! Thanks.

Great extension to Visual Studio, does exactly what it says on the box.

I needed the extension for tracking Branches in TFS, and this does the job wonderfully.

One addition that I would like to recommend, would be to update the Recent list (on the Start Page) to also include the Branch name, as it appears in the Solution Badges.

So many features which I have been missing! You, sir, just made my day :)

Highlights for me:

- "Attach to IIS"-button - saves precious clicks when debugging!
- Auto hide main menu - because screen space is precious :)
- Start without debugging - should have been part of VS natively!

EDIT: Also just noticed a warning when accidentally moving files with drag and drop. THANK YOU!!

VSCommands is a MUST-HAVE fantastic productivity tool-set additions for Visual Studio. I couldn't live without it and was glad to see it available in VS2012 as I've been using it for years in VS2010.

Squared Infinity [Jarek Kardas] has been top-notch when it comes to feature requests. I'm sure it's no easy task, so thank you! Keep it up!

  • Output coloring stopped working
    1 Posts | Last post April 16, 2014
    • I currently have VS2012 with VSCommands installed. I don't know if installing VS2013 side-by-side has anything to do with this, but I notice today that in VS2012, the output coloring is no longer taking place. I tried recreating the fonts and colors category in VS options, but that didn't help.
What happened and how do I resolve this??
  • vsc:BranchName
    1 Posts | Last post April 03, 2014
    • One thing that I searched for that wasn't obvious in the help for Solution Badges was how to change from "default" branch when hitting Alt+Tab and in the custom Start Page.
I finally found {vsc:branchName} and put it in my Mercurial Branch Name Pattern. I am now very happy with the product and if all goes well will be presenting it to the team for purchase.
It would be very helpful to have a documented list of these tags and link to them in the help for Solution Badges.
      Thanks! I love the product.
  • R# Incompatability?
    1 Posts | Last post February 12, 2014
    • I have R# installed and as soon as I install VSCommands, the intellisence in XAML stops working. For example, when I am trying to add the design datasource 'd:DataContext' and 'd:DesignInstance', after ':' it does not provide me with the possible choices. I need to uninstall VSCommands and reinstall R#, only then I get the functionality back. Does anyone have the same problem, or know how to fix it?
  • Solution Badges not shown
    1 Posts | Last post December 10, 2013
    • The solution badge not shown since yesterday's crash of VS2012, after that, even if I remove/reinstall this extension, the solution badge will not show, it always appears as a loading symbol like this snapshot: http://postimg.org/image/ll4j55ms1/
  • File Structure not opening in VS2012-U4 on Windows Server 2012
    1 Posts | Last post November 21, 2013
    • Haven't had any luck getting File Structure to work at all on this 2012 server OS. Just updated VS to Update 4 and File Structure didn't work. Uninstalled VSCommands, reinstalled... still nothing. The window doesn't open at all. Tried both from the Tools menu and the key command to launch it. Bummed.
  • View Code/Desgigner buttons
    4 Posts | Last post November 14, 2013
    • Now that you've added the 'Disable Graph Provider' feature, could you also add 2 buttons to the Solution Explorer: 'View Code', 'View Designer'.
(I should say put back because they somehow were removed in VS2012 but I really do not see how you're supposed to easily open the code of a form for example without first expanding the tree...)
      Thanks for a great extension...
    • Hmm I actually see this new feature is only in the VS2013 edition? Is it coming to VS2012?
    • Hi!
Yes, 2012 version will be updated by Monday.
as for 'View Code', 'View Designer', I can see them in 2012.
What project type do you use (I tried with WPF).
    • Standard winforms...
  • Code block end tagger: switch blocks

    • Switch blocks don't appear to have the code tag end blocks.
  • Purchase?
    5 Posts | Last post November 13, 2013
    • This says free here but on the website you need to pay? What are the differences between paid and free version?
    • Hi,
Most features are in free version, but others are only available in PRO (code block end tagger for example). I apologise for lack of clarity on which is which, the detailed differences will be published soon when I finish next batch of work.
    • it's been over a month and i have not seen where you list the the diff between free and pro. i will not buy anything out of my own pocket, mainly because i am self employed and just don't have money when there are so many other developers that offer the same things for nothing. i would like to maybe install the free if it is ad free and has what others don't offer. thanks rf
    • Yeah there is a bit of ambiguity when it says Free and when installing the vsix the "Free" license is not mentioned at all in the EULA. I kind of feel a little criminal now because I agreed to this just to install it based on your mentioning of some kind of Free license. I think you really should clear this thing out by just adding the description of what the "Free" license is or just say clearly there is no Free license. Other than that the tool seem very useful on first touch. Thank you.
    • Hi guys!
Sorry for late response. I've been busy getting things ready for VS2013 launch. Features comparison will be added to the website soon after launch on 13th.
  • Usability of Attach to IIS
    5 Posts | Last post October 31, 2013
    • Please provide a way to filter out websites in stopped state.
    • Hi Kerem, could you tell me bit more about usability problem in your case?
Maybe you could send me a screenshot to jarek@squaredinfinity.com?
I'll make sure to fix this soon.
    • The previous version only showed running IIS processes. If there was only one running process it was attached to without any dialog. The current version shows every single IIS web site along with every single virtual directory/application. My machine has about 40+ items that show up in the dialog and at any given time only 2-3 are actually running. The rest are mostly NEVER running or are virtual directories that run in the same app pool as something else. Its just too much. It should be by w3wp as it was before.
    • I also need this feature. Its strange numerous plugins and VS do not make attaching to iis convenient.
Meanwhile maybe this can help you - http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/8cccc206-b9de-42ef-8f5a-160ad0f017ae.
    • Hi Alex,
If you're attaching to websites in current solution you can just tick 'automatically attach to all in current solution' to do that without the dialog.
The problem with simply attaching to w3wp is that it covers just few use cases, but not majority of them. Reason why you see the dialog is that in many setups you may have several w3wp running (it allows you to select exactly the one you want) and also many IIS Express instances running too.
Furthermore, w3wp may not be started for site you want in which case Attach to IIS will start it for you.
Having said that, I'm already working on more flexible solution where instead of showing dialog box you can just dock a 'Quick Attach' tool window and easily attach to anything from there. It's still work in progress but first version will be released shortly. Here's a screenshot of how it looks now: http://i.imgur.com/rN3amoU.png
  • Can I disable features?
    2 Posts | Last post October 29, 2013
    • I installed VsCommands for the "Copy/Paste As Link" feature, but I've spent the last hour trying to fix all the text/font/coloring issues it has given me. "Override output window text color" when checked or unchecked makes no difference. I want to disable all theme-related features.
Had a few other issues too, including that reloading a project (when the .csproj is edited externally) now takes much longer. Sorry to say that, as a time-saver, this add-in has a lot of catching up to do. It has great potential.
Is there a way to disable any/all the features of VsCommands and keep only the "Copy/Paste As Link" feature?
Does anyone know of another extension that allows files to be copy/pasted as links?
    • Hi,
"Override output window text color" only works with text not caught by other rules (so you can change default color from say black to grey). It doesn't turn all coloring on/off - but I'll add such option in future release.
Could you let me know what text/font/coloring issue is it giving you? I didn't have any other reports of that so it would be great to know.
Also note that on some systems (depending on security settings) you may need to run Visual Studio as administrator at least once and then go to Tools | VSCommands | Options | Output Windows | Recreate Fonts and Colors category.
as for reloading times for .csproj, I'll do some tests soon to see what's happening and fix if able to reproduce locally.
Also note that all Visual Studio extensions run in the same process and there are many instances when one will conflict with another so it would be great if you could send me the list of your installed extensions to Jarek@squaredinfinity.com
      Thank you in advance,
