To add VS 2013 support, download the file somewhere and rename to .zip
Then open it with some archiver and edit extension.vsixmanifest .
Change <VisualStudio Version="11.0"> to <VisualStudio Version="12.0"> under <SupportedProducts>. Rename back to .vsix and you are ready to go.

if you have issue under Visual Studio 2010, please see solution in this link:

https://github.com/moodmosaic/EmptyWebApiProjectTemplate/issues/2

replaced "AspNetMvc4VS11" with "AspNetMvc4VS2010" in EmptyWebApiProjectTemplate.vstemplate file and rebuilded extension

Thanks for reporting this. FWIW, I just pushed a separate version for Visual Studio 2010 on GitHub at https://github.com/moodmosaic/EmptyWebApiProjectTemplate

(The 2010 version now contains the AspNetMvc4VS2010 key, as you suggested) :)

Used this in combination with the nice tutorial over at http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/615805/Creating-a-Clean-Minimal-Footprint-ASP-NET-WebAPI

to mock a lightweight RESTful service at work.

Worked fine in vs2012.

Thanks!

I can't get this to work for VS 2010 on Windows XP. I keep getting a 'path too long' error.

    • Any way we can get a VB version of this?
    • Good idea. I will keep this thread updated.
    • Any updates on a possible VB version? thx
    • I am planning to create a VB version too.

Although I haven't start creating the template yet, it is going to available for Visual Studio 2013 (here, on the Visual Studio gallery) while previous versions (2010, 2012 will be archived on the github repository.)
  • Where do I find it?

    • After installation, where do I find the new project type? What's it called?
    • Select 'ASP.NET MVC 4 Web Application', then the 'Empty Web API' project template.
    • Ah, it's a template for a template :) Tricky.

      Thanks
