Awesome, just what should be in VS 2013! Notifications!

by Srikanth Sakhamuri | February 17 2014

This is awesome, where I can have my chat windows in different screens helps me to focus on my stuff and see who is available.

Nice Extension for VS 2013 :-)

But i think the extension sometimes has problems with Dns-Aliases. Also the tray-notification does not work when someone mentions me :-(

Excellent, i really love Team Rooms Extension.
There is only a stuff that i hate about it, the white border also in dark theme.. Is possible to solve it ? thanks.

by felickz | January 10 2014

excellent, how did TFS team get away with not implementing this?

by codepic | January 03 2014

This is really good. As it's always a bad thing for productivity the more you need to switch between applications. However, could we have direct linking to tasks? Visual Studio Online supports linking to tasks with a hash tag. So, let's say you want to ask someone to help with task ID 1160, you'd simply type #1160 in your message and the room would get a link to the task.

Thanks for your feedback! We know this limitation and it is in our backlog. We will pick this up as soon after our upcoming version(1.2.6) is live. Stay tuned.

I like this extension because it enables me to stay inside my IDE. I did find a small bug I believe, after you create a task for example then on the web interface it shows Task #x however in the Team Rooms extension, this gets shown as Changeset #x

Thank you Jan for your feedback. The functionality mentioned by you is not implemented in to the extension yet. We are currently working on next version of extension and unfortunately our backlog is full. We will pick this up as soon as our development for upcoming version is complete. Thank you for your understanding.

Sounds very good! But for me the list of available rooms is always empty. do miss something?

It seems like Raymond is right. I deleted all other rooms :) Now it works perfect. Thanks

Thank you for confirming sko. We are continuing to investigate this. I am glad Raymonds proposed work around has resolved this for you. We are targeting to get a fix for this issue. We'll keep you posted.

by Raymond Hartog | October 29 2013

This is a great new feature for Visual Studio! I had the same issue; empty available rooms.
I figured out that you have to be member of all teams. After adding me to all teams, the available rooms is filled
A strange behavior pops-up if you remove yourself from one of the teams. The list will be partly populated.

Thank you Raymond, you are a gem! Thank you for posting this work around. We are investigating this issue and are targeting to get to the bottom of this issue at the earliest.

Great work, can you please also add functionality to tag people, such as @name?

Thanks Mark! We are hard at work on this and a few more features...

5 stars, i didn't use web based team rooms because as a developer i spend maximum time in visual studio. I love this extension, it makes collaborating with my team over team rooms possible from within visual studio. Kudos!

Thanks Anuradha. Delighted to know the extension is proving useful to you.

This is cool, I'm still struggling to figure out how to get the tray notification work but yes it does what I want to have in VS -- receiving messages from team room and

Thanks for the great feedback Liang! We are delighted you like the extension, we will be making some more improvements to it. Currently extension alerts (tray notification) will only pop up when a user joins the room.

Brilliant, I've waited so long for this :)

    • As with a lot of the other areas in Team Explorer, it would be nice to be able to select my favorite team rooms. I have access to a lot of rooms but there are only a few that I actively participate in.
  • Failure in SmartAssembly

    • After restarting VS2013 (following loading this extension)

      I get System Exception: Received unexpected HTTP status

      The response was 200
      at JoinUserToRoom

      Note: I am using corp identity not @liveid.com
    • Hi Marc, Yes, we observed it too. I think the product team has made some changes to the API which is causing the issue. We are currently investigating. We will publish the fix hopefully at the earliest.
    • Hi Marc, This is fixed in the latest version. However, please note that, we have received an update from MS product team that they are making changes to the API. Hence there is huge chance that extension might break at few more places in the coming future. Please let us know if you encounter any issues.
    • i still have that error , it's now 25th of march which means im downloading the latest version , please help
    • I got same error. I downloaded the extension today.

    • I have only just installed the extension, and I have received a similar error message. In this one, the response status was: 204. Indeed, a quick look at fiddler and there is no content in the return message. Let me know if there is a dump or exception report somewhere I can send you.
    • Same error here :-(
    • Any updates on a fix? Seems like a fantastic extension.
    • Hello All, thanks for your questions and feedback. Apparently Microsoft has not made the API public and we are waiting for the API's to be made public. Only when it is done, we can actually fix these issues as any fix we make might not work. Please bear with us.
  • Copy text is missing

    • Thanks for the extension. It's great to get notifications. The web version is lacking this feature and I don't want to have to watch the tab all day.

      I would like to be able to copy test from the conversation. Any plans to add that?

  • Feature Requests
    1 Posts | Last post January 30, 2014
    • Firstly, this extension is pretty sweet!
      Would be so much more useful to me if there were a few other features:
      Option to allow toast popup to persist
      Option to make the team room tab flash or change color when there are unread threads
      Option to raise the toast popup into a windows notification

      That's all so far - the first two would be the most important to me.
  • Notification for any activity

    • Is there a way to enable toast popup for any message, not just @ direct messages?

    • +1 for that feature! This would really help our team to adopt it. Would also be helpful if the tab were a different color to indicate there were unread msgs on the thread.
  • hashtag links into work items

    • Is it possible to support for hashtag as hyperlinks (or open them in studio) of work items

      (is there a better spot to have these discussions?)

    • The CI Build events in the chat don't show the user like the web view, instead they show ***NO_CI*** .. if someone bypasses the CI it shows their name correctly:

  • Searching Team Rooms?
    1 Posts | Last post January 09, 2014
    • does anyone know a way to search for text across multiple rooms or multiple dates? Would be great to go search rooms for items that have been a month or older vs. searching day by day.

      Any ideas?
  • Team Rooms option not appearing in VS2013 Ultimate
    4 Posts | Last post January 05, 2014
    • Extension installed succesfully but "Team Rooms" option is not appearing in Team Explorer. I am using VS2013 Ultimate version.
    • I'm having the same issue. I'm guessing that this extension isn't compatible with TFS Power Tools, maybe? Are you using TFS Power Tools also?
    • No I'm not using TFS power tools.
    • @Haroon, Alix, are you seeing this even when you are connected to TFS? We have logic in our extension where we do not show "Team Rooms" button when user is not connected to TFS (this is because to access Team Rooms API you need to connected to TFS).
  • What is the correct API request endpoint to join a room?
    2 Posts | Last post December 05, 2013
    • .visualstudio.com/DefaultCollection/_apis/Chat/Rooms/{room id}/Users/{user id} via HTTP PUT with the param UserId={user id}

      The response I keep getting is:

      {
          "$id": "1",
          "innerException": null,
          "message": "Value cannot be null.\r\nParameter name: userUpdate",
          "typeName": "System.ArgumentNullException, mscorlib, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089",
          "typeKey": "ArgumentNullException",
          "errorCode": 0,
          "eventId": 0
      }

      I based it off this documentation: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/bharry/archive/2013/07/22/rest-api-for-team-rooms.aspx
    • Hi, make sure you pass the parameter as JSON content. For ex: {'UserId':UserTFSId}
