Nice Work

Yann Duran Oktober 17 2011

Thank you! I'm glad you like it. There's been a few hiccoughs for a few people apparently (with the logoff button), so I'll try to sort those out as soon as I can. We're down to the last couple of chapters for the book, so hopefully I'll have heaps mre time for things like this soon. Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing this one. Seems to be doing what it says on the tin. Nice extension that I can see many adopting. Good one, Yann! Can't wait for your book, where we'll all find how it's done!
MS may even integrate you ideas into vNext!

    • I experienced the same problem with this logout button. Has this been fixed yet? thanks
  • Is this only for the LightSwitch Standard Shell?
    1 Posts | Letzter Beitrag Mai 03, 2012
    • Awesome extension Yann!

Just want some clarification... I'm using VS2011 (Beta). Does this only work with the LightSwitch Standard Shell? I tried this using the Cosmopolitan Shell, however the controls are not shown.

      Keep up the great work!

  • Update for Luminous Commands
    1 Posts | Letzter Beitrag April 12, 2012
    • Hey Yann,

First of all, well done! I noticed the book is out and I would love to see some of the updates that are discussed in the messages below. Personally, allowing button visibility, and more cross browser functionality for firefox and chrome (with regards to exit and logoff buttons) would be fantastic!

I look forward to seeing more developments on your great extensions.

      Thanks,

      Wes
  • I can use Luminous GroupLayout , but I can not use Luminous Command
    1 Posts | Letzter Beitrag Februar 02, 2012
    • Hi Yann

Yes, it is checked in the project's properties, extensions page. Yes, I tried unticking the box, letting VS restart then ticking the box again. I am not getting any error messages at all. But Commands are still is not appearing.

I am using Vista Home Basic. Is it a reason ?
  • Log Off Button Still Not Working

    • Hello Yann, I know you were busy with the book but I am wondering if you came up with a solution for the following error:

      Server Error in '/' Application.
      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

      The resource cannot be found.
Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

      Requested URL: /Luminous.Commands.Server;component/LogOff.aspx

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.5448; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.5420

      Thanks!
      Russ
    • Hi Russ,

I have had the chance to look at the problem, but I can't find the solkution yet, so I'll be releasing an updatede version of the extension, that has the LogOff command set to not visible by default for new users, and a very easy way to make it not visible for existing users.

If you have Microsoft's Productivity Power Tools installed (for VS) you'll automatically get an update notification when I publish the new version. If you're not using it, I highly recommend that you give it a try, it has lots of helpful features in it.
  • Cannot diable the Luminous commands
    4 Posts | Letzter Beitrag Januar 06, 2012
    • I really like these commands but my Client likes a leaner interface and so would like me to remove the three commands that your extension adds. Unfortunately I have been unable to remove them because I keep getting this error: Could not load file or assemby Luminous.Commands.Common. the system cannot find the file specified... first I just unchecked the controls in the Ls extension mgr. Then I disabled them. Then I uninstalled them. Same error pops up and the "Loading screen..." comes up and just hangs... How do I remove these controls?

      Thanks,
      ed
    • I don't know why that would happen, unless something went wrong right when LightSwitch was updating the lsml file. I'd try installing the extension again (by downloading the VSIX file & running it manually), then try unticking the extension in the Extensions tab. That's really all you need to do, the extension can stay installed on your dev machine, if the box is unticked it won't be included in your deployed project, but you *can* also uninstall it as well. There should be no need to disbale it in between those two actions though. Please do let me know if you still have problems removing it, although nobody else has reported a problem with uninstalling it (thankfully), just the problem with the "Log Off" command.
    • Yann, I finally had to go to the config.xml file in the clientgenerated project and remove the references to the luminous.commands there. I assume that unticking the reference in the extensions control of my VS project should have done that but for some reason it did not.

Anyway, that solved my problem...keep up the good work on your extensions and hope to be able to get your book in couple of months.

    • I've had to delete stuff from the Config.xml file myself as well, just about any extension that I've wanted to uninstall/deactivate. I'm happy to take ownership of the problem, & look into if it only happens with my extensions, but my personal experience is that LS doesn't treat the unintsalling/deactivating of any extensions in a consistent manner.
  • Translating displayed text...
    5 Posts | Letzter Beitrag November 07, 2011
    • Hi Yann,
there isn't a XML file to change displayed text as "Close (Save)" for all projects (old & new)??
    • No, there's no XML way of modifying the text, but if you read this post, http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/lightswitch/thread/fd348b2a-30b0-48fc-b240-efd48990a1bd, there is a built-in way of doing it.
    • It might be interesting and useful to everyone...
Do you'll add this feature in a new release??

      Thanks.
      Lorenzo
    • Dear Mr.Yann

      this link is not working??!!

      http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/lightswitch/thread/fd348b2a-30b0-48fc-b240-efd48990a1bd

      please repost the solution...

    • That's VERY odd! It looks the same as the correct url, but doesn't work. Try this: "http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/lightswitch/thread/fd348b2a-30b0-48fc-b240-efd48990a1bd" (copy & paste, without the quotes of course). If for some reason that still doesn't work for you, try searching the forum for "CUSTOM GLOBAL COMMANDS". I'd post it here, but the lines would all end up together in one long line, & it'd be pretty hard to read. Do let me know if you can't get to the page though & I'll blog it for you.

  • Making Controls Visible
    2 Posts | Letzter Beitrag Oktober 27, 2011
    • Yann:
Nice look, I've already prepaid for your book, and I can't wait until it's out. December seems a long way off.
I have a strictly display page that I want to "disable" the save buttons. Can you tell me how I might accomplish that? Any update on the logoff button? Will I be able to control where to redirect the user upon logoff?
    • Thanks for the support for the book. I hope it meets your expectations (well, actually I hope it exceeds your expectations, lol)!

The problem with disabling the Save button for just one page is that the commands are "global". They apply equally to each screen. I've got an idea of something to try, but it has to wait till the last chapter of the book's been done unfortunately. We're down to the wire with this last deadline.

Give me a week or so & I'll be able to look at both the Logoff problem, as well as suggestions. I must admit, I hadn't thought of allowing somoene to choose where to go after logging off, the idea was to redirect back to the logon screen. Where else would you wwant to go? If It's possible, sure why not. I'd be happy to add value to the command for people.

so can i change the behavior of this button to loged me off and take me to my home page???

      and thank you in advance..
    • Thanks Jamil. Several people have now reported this behavior (see below), I need to get the book finished first unfortunately (to meet publisher deadline), then I'll get a chance to look into why this is happening, & fix it.
