It says it installs, but if you check the folder

C:\Users\..\AppData\Local\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v8.0\ExtensionSDKs\ it actually is missing the necessary extensions. I had to manually unpack and copy them into the right directories.

This cannot be installed using Visual Studio 2013. I need to add a maps control to my Windows 8.0 app using VS 2013. This is useless to anyone using VS2013.

Good solid map control for Windows Store apps. The only Windows 8 specific map control available from any mapping provider.

  • How to target both 8.0 and 8.1?
    4 Posts | Last post April 01, 2014
    • There will be a period of time when developers need to target both Windows 8.0 and 8.1. The optimal way to do this would be to have a single Visual Studio solution that shares code files.

However, unless I'm misunderstanding something, it looks like you need to use the Bing Maps Win8.0 SDK with Visual Studio 2012 and the Bing Maps Win8.1 SDK with Visual Studio 2013.

It doesn't seem to be possible to have both versions of the Bing Maps SDK installed for VS2013 ... ?

      Or am I missing something?

    • Not missing anything from what I can tell. This is very annoying as I have to keep a separate VS 2012 VM to build a 8.0 targeted solution; if it weren't for this extension, the 8.0 targeted solution would build under VS 2013 without issue.
    • We have to develop both Windows 8.0 and 8.1 apps, but if I install the Bing Maps Win8.1 SDK for Visual Studio 2013 (Version 1.313.825.0), I can't use anymore the Bing Maps Win8.0 SDK for Visual Studio 2012 (Version 1.113.601.2) on the same machine. This is a very annoying issue. Please fix it!
      Thanks

Same issue here, I have just updated my app to Windows 8.1, only to find out that I am now unable to update my Windows 8 version. I would like to move forward to VS 2013 but I can't because of this.

  • Bing Map is Blank
    1 Posts | Last post September 18, 2013
    • Hi,
Bing Map control is visible but the map is blank, even i still can change the view but it does not renders the map.

I have installed 2012 Ultimate in 8.1 OS. I think this could not be an issue.
  • Error using latest version
    2 Posts | Last post August 28, 2013
    • Previously I've used the version 1.0 of the Bing Maps SDK and my app worked perfectly with it. With build 1.113.xxx my app crashes when using the map control.
Where can I find the previous version (1.0) of the vsix file? I wish to revert back to this older version until a more stable version comes out.

    • Finally figured out that there is an issue with the ShowBuildings option (which can be set to false or true). Removing this feature from the source fixed the runtime error. Hope someone else can benefit from this information and possibly it can be fixed in the next release.
  • Windows 8.1 + Vs2013 for windows 8.0 app
    3 Posts | Last post August 06, 2013
    • Hi, I installed windows 8.1, vs 2013 preview in order to make a windows 8.0 app, and I cannot install this extension into vs 2013, it says I didn't find any suitable product for the extension in order to be installed. I cannot compile my source code right now... what should I do? Thanks.
    • There is a separate release for Windows 8.1: http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/2010fe17-56fc-42ca-b5c0-d2448a9fe460
    • The 8.1 extension does not work with 8.0 projects. I'm maintaining a windows 8.0 project, not creating a 8.1.

    • I've noticed the Pushpins don't update sometimes as well. I found a workaround which is to call Map.SetView(Map.TargetCenter), which seems to trigger a refresh causing the Pushpins to update.

    • Bing maps installs with Microsft.VCLibs 11 that is incompatible with 8.1

I tried removing it and added Microsft.VCLibs 12 that vs2013 ships with, but Bing complains that it can't find version 11.
    • There is a separate download for Windows 8.1 which you can find here: http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/2010fe17-56fc-42ca-b5c0-d2448a9fe460
