It installed on VS 2008 (Windows XP) without a problem. It is simple and does what I need. The only thing I don't like is the Dialog Box like Behavior, therefore, I cannot access my code while this tool is open. This prevents me from copying/pasting samples, expressions etc.
But anyways it is sufficient for quick checking/designing simple expressions.

Just a short while ago I was looking for a quick and easy RegEx tool, to play with some RegEx expressions, something that could be added to Visual Studio and was cheap (cough... free... cough).
This is the tool I was looking for
Install (Win XP x86) was fast and easy. Available via the Tools menu, this addin worked the first time and with no problems at all.
Nice work and thank you for releasing it.
PS. Any chance that it will be OSS'ed or source made available?

After my initial install of Regular Expression Explorer, I started Visual Studio 2008 and got this error: "The Add-in 'RegEx Explorer' failed to load or caused an exception. Would you like to remove this Add-in? If you choose yes, the file it was loaded from, 'G:\Visual Studio 2008\Addins\RegExExplorer.Addin', will be renamed. Error Message: <Unknown Error> Error number: 80131604"
The problem is that my office PC has "My Documents" mapped to a shared network drive, and Visual Studio apparently doesn't like to load add-ins from there. (Similar problem for another add-in named "Search Work Items".)
The workaround was to move the RegEx Explorer files from the original path to a local path such as C:\Documents and Settings\{loginid}\Application Data\Microsoft\MSEnvShared\Addins. In Visual Studio 2008 see the Tools - Options dialog and Add-in File Paths under Add-in/Macros Security. Then restart Visual Studio.
