Works great for my use case! I already had VS 2013 installed, does exactly what I need it to do which is connect to TFS with VS 2008.

by CJButcher | April 28 2016

Would work great...if it weren't broken. This version (12.1.00402.0) won't allow opening of an access DB downloaded from TFS...isn't that one of the main points of using this?

Rumor has it version 12..60923.0 actually works.

How do we get a copy of that?

by svoburner | April 07 2016

How does MS get away with writing this crap - won't install unless you have VS2013 installed first.

by jhvgkjhfgkjfg | February 10 2016

If you have VS 2015 installed, you still need to install VS 2013 in order to be able to use this. LAME...

by Christof Wollenhaupt | January 05 2016

Doesn't work without VS 2013 installed which interferes with my VS 2015 projects.

by David Cummings (70d) | November 30 2015

by JWHOLM | November 11 2015

Why is the "updated" time changed? I hoped for a release where the install issues were solved.
It is still the same binary that does not work with VS 2015.

Kind regards,
Jes Holm

This does not work if you have TF Power Tools 2015 installed. It requires 2013 installed which is not the same as saying it works with VS 2015.

by FabioBo | October 12 2015

It doesn't work with Team Foundation Server 2015!
Reading this article, we have decide to do a migration of all our project to VS2015 and TFS2015.
For the older project we have had a bad surprise when we have try to install Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2013&2015 MSSCCI Provider 32-bit.
When will be available a new release for Visual Studio 2015 / Team Explorer 2015?
Thanks

by W. Andreas | October 02 2015

In contrast to what is signaled in the description and in the QandA this version DOES NOT WORK with a Visual Studio 2015 only installation.

The setup checks in it's launch conditions wether Team Explorer 2013 is installed on the system and, if TE2013 is not found, cancels the installation.

Just for curiosity we removed the blocking launch condition with MS Orca and were finally able to install the current version on a machine running with vs 2015, not vs 2013 (and therefore without the tfs 2013 client object model).
Nevertheless and not surprisingly the following try to start a VB6 instance with active SCC integration failed with reference errors (the tfs 2013 client object model assemblies are missing).

When will be a version available that REALLY works on a system with only Visual Studio 2015 / Team Explorer 2015 installed?

We urgently need this!

Does not work with TFS2015 and VS2008.

by Tak1wa | March 29 2015

I was used to connect to TFS2013 from VisualStudio2005Professional. I was able to migrate the source control without any problems from VSS.

not ready for prime time; won't use local workspace; can't select which workspace to use; winds up conflicting with visual studio

  • MSSCCI Provider that uses Visual Studio 2015
    3 Posts | Last post June 03, 2016
    • I created a forum post and a Microsoft Connect Article about this if anyone wants to respond to either. It is about having a MSSCCI Provider that uses Visual Studio 2015. Beyond other concerns, I don't see how having one that uses VS 2013 and not one that uses VS 2015 is useful if you do not have a license for VS 2013.
      https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/7bfad4d4-5ea9-4e70-98c6-cb4ffbf70965/team-foundation-server-2015-msscci-provider?forum=tfsversioncontrol&prof=required
      https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/2143914/no-msscci-provider-available-for-vs-2015-and-tfs-2015
    • I think that the next MSSCCI Provider won't be created until after Visual Studio 2013 is no longer supported, at which time they may just decide that no one needs an MSSCCI Provider. :(
Note that the connect article was closed with no reason given.
    • I sincerely hope I am completely wrong about that.

    • Hi,

any chance we can get an updated MSSCCI for VS2015 soon?

      Regards,

      Thomas
    • The recently updated 2013 version now also supports 2015. Download it again and that should work.
    • This only works if you have VS2013 installed - for clean OS with only VS2015 you get:

Microsoft Visual Studio Team Explorer or its tools are not installed or registered.
Please install or repair your Team Foundation Client Installation.

    • This version is not working with VS 2015 I need it for my Installshield projects to work with my source control (TFS).... I'm stuck guys!

      >>please Jesse Houwing stop telling ppl that it works because it does not!
    • Same problem ... fails on Windows 10 as it is looking for VS 2013 when VS 2015 is installed
    • I've the same issue, installation of MSSCCI fails on Windows 10 because of missing VS2013 (i've VS2015).
I've installed "Microsoft Visual Studio Team Explorer 2013", after that MSSCCI setup was seccesfully completed but when i try to make a new Team Project a have the following error: "TF200038: You cannot create a team project with your version of Team Explorer. Contact your system administrator to determine how to upgrade yuou Team Explorer client to the version compatible with Team Foundation Server".
      Thanks
    • The Update on 8/27/15 states "Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2013 MSSCCI Provider supports VS 2015". Is it correct that this means it can now run without VS2013 installed? Also, is this also the correct up to date MSSCCI provider for full support of TFS 2015?
    • The information on this page was incorrect. You need VS2013 to use MSSCCI with TFS and VSO.
    • TFS Power Tools Team, can you please tell us if you are committed to providing an update that will work with VS 2015? If and update is in the works, can you let us know when it might available? I need to know if I need to know if our team should revert to VS 2013. Thanks for your efforts.
    • Please fix this for VS2015 it will not install.

    • Any updates on this? Also having issues with VS2015
    • Still awaiting support for VS2015. I am getting the same error everyone else.
    • Still waiting on this as well, getting same error on Windows 10 with VS 2015 and Team Explorer 2013 installed. Any update from Microsoft would be great!
  • Compatibility issue with access 2010 source code control
    16 Posts | Last post May 25, 2016
    • Hi,

the current version seems to be in some form incompatible if used together with the access 2010 source code control plugin.

We use that plugin heavily to archive customer projects, but when trying to first time get a fresh access project from tfs 2013.2 into a local workspace, during which the access database is constructed by the plugin, we get the following message specific to the access 2010 scc plugin:

"Cannot create a new Microsoft Access database from this source code control project. It contains neither a Data and Misc. objects file nor a database name file."

Needlees to say that both files are indeed present in the local workspace after the get, but there seems to be some kind of interoperabilty issue between the access scc plugin and the msscci provider.

Switching back the former msscci provider version 12.0.60923.0 solves the issue immediately.

We are using version 14.0.4763.1000 of the access 2010 scc plugin.

Would be nice to see a solution for that problem, even though we know that the access plugin is somehow exotic and not commonly used.

      Thanks, W. Andreas
    • Forgot to mention explicitly that this issue is related to msscci provider version 12.1.00402.0.

      Thanks, W. Andreas
    • w. Andreas, thank you for the info. I was having a similar issue pulling access database applications into VM's from TFS. Going back to provider version 12.0.60923.0 fixed the issue for me as well.

      Thanks, L. Carter
    • Wandreas1 and JCLTech, we are having the same exact problem!

Can I ask how you got a previous version of the msscci provider? I can't seem to find an earlier version on the web anywhere.

      Thanks.
      Ann
    • Get the message 'Failed to create new database based on a Team Foundation project'. Currently using msscci provider version 12.1.00402.0

I'm looking for the previous version of TFS 2013 MSSCCI Provider (32 bit) version 12.0.60923.0

This should fix the issue as mentioned in http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/8d7daeb5-0d14-4434-93a0-346ea5c6081b/tfs-and-ms-access-new-from-sourcesafe-fails?forum=accessdev
    • I have the same problem and I'd like to know how I can obtain an earlier version of the MSSCCI provider as mentioned above, or I want to know when this problem is going to be solved.
    • I seem to be experiencing the same problem as the rest of you regarding Access 2010. Is there a location to download version 12.0.60923.0 of the MSSCCI Provider? I haven't been able to locate a copy of this version online. Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.
    • Has anyone found a solution for this - or location of the previous version MSSCCI file [12.0..etc]. I am getting this error as well and can't create a local TFS copy...
    • I desperately need this version of MSSCCI provider (12.0.60923.0), please can someone send this to me.

      Jason@software-solutions.co.nz

    • Hi,

unluckily I did not return here for quite a time and did not see those above requests for version 12.0.60923.0 until today.

We have this provider version archived locally, so if anybody still is in need, just leave a note here to share.

      Regards,
      W. Andreas
    • W. Andreas,

Could you please provide that version. Ive been trying to figure this out for days now.
    • All.. today 21 Oct 2015 I have downloaded (via the download) button on this page the MSSCCI provider. The version on the top of the page claims to be 12.1.00402.0.

However... I did an administrative MSI install to unpack the MSI file to disk and when I look at the version on the TfsMsscciGui.dll file (which appears to be the only file in the distribution that has a version number) it claims to be 12.0.30402.0

Now I have various other version of the MSSCCI provider and the version of TfsMsscciGui.dll normally always agrees with the advertised version so I am wondering of somehow the wrong file is being distributed here.

Might that explain why some people are claiming VS2015 compatibility but when others are using it is not working for them?

Also if you want to see which MSSCCI version you currently have installed go look in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Team Foundation Server MSSCCI Provider" and check the versions in there.

Can anyone confirm the distribution does in fact contain the correct files for v12.1.00402.0 please.
    • Hi,

not sure if this complies with microsofts rules here, but you can find two installs (32bit and 64 bit) of the msscci provider in version 12.0.60923.0 here: http://1drv.ms/1LohAIt
To MS: If posting links here hits any rules, then please remove the post

      Regards, W. Andreas

    • W. Andreas,

Thank You Soooo Much! Finally able to "Create From Team Foundation" successfully.

      Thanks Again and Again.
    • Hello W. Andreas (and all). Sorry we're kind of late to the game on this issue, but we've just migrated over to VS/TFS 2015 (and we still have Access 2010 DBs). We're seeing the same problems as described in this discussion.

Can anyone point me to a location where I could get version 12.0.60923.0 (W. Andreas's url http://1drv.ms/1LohAIt doesn't appear to be valid anymore)?

      We really need this "fix!"

      Thanks.

    • Hi again... W. Andreas's url http://1drv.ms/1LohAIt does work. It was my "wonderful" IT group blocking it.

I got the correct version and was able to build the Access DB from TFS.

      Thanks.

  • VFP 9 SP2: slow project loading
    1 Posts | Last post May 11, 2016
    • Is it possible, that MSSCCI make VFP project loading slow? Project has 1000+ files, workspace is server. Project loads about 120+ seconds. Network traffic is greater during loading, CPU and memory no significant change. How can I optimalize loading project please?
  • VFP 9 SP2: cannot update project from project metafile
    2 Posts | Last post May 03, 2016
    • Hi,
I have existing project in Visual Fox Pro 9 SP2. I added this project to source control over VFP IDE, then I added files to source control. Everythink was success, but then I update project list - checkin ok, hovewer after it, error "cannot update project from project metafile" occurs.

Same error is shown when try join source controlled project to other station.

Can somebody explain me why I have this problem and how solve it?
      Thank you
    • There was problem in PJM file - one file path contained comma.
It's a pity that IDE didn't show detailed error message about syntax error (for example line number). Finding this one line in thousands lines was hard.
  • VB 6 "Differences" option freezes
    2 Posts | Last post April 11, 2016
    • I am using this MSSCCI provider with VB 6.0 and everything works great except for the "Difference" operation - it freezes VB 6 (the "Switch To" dialog comes up when clicking anywhere). Any way around this ?
    • Be careful with VB 6.0 files. I have found that Visual Studio 2013 and below can corrupt VB 6 files during a merge if something needs to be manually corrected. See here: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/043ad82e-8c02-4782-bbc8-4d7cf7bb0326/visual-studio-corrupts-vb6-files-when-merging-changes-for-tfs-checkin-with-manual-corrections?forum=tfsgeneral
My last test appeared to show that this does not happen with VS 2015. The problem then is that because they have not made a MSSCCI Provider that integrates with VS2015, the choice is to either not bother with an MSSCCI Provider since you do everything manually, or use one that may corrupt your code!
  • Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2015 MSSCCI Provider
    10 Posts | Last post November 12, 2015
    • When can we expect to get the update for VS2015?
    • The recently updated 2013 version now also supports 2015. Download it again and that should work.
    • It does not work with TFS 2015, any updates planned on this?
    • Jesse, it is simply not working with vs2015 only-installations on a system, because it seems to check for the existence of Team Explorer 2013.

I get the following message, when trying to install on a machine with vs 2015 only installed:

      ==========================================================
Microsoft Team Foundation Server MSSCCI Provider
      ==========================================================
Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 Team Explorer or its tools are not installed or registered.
Please install or repair your Team Foundation Client Installation.
      ==========================================================
      OK
      ==========================================================

I do not intend to switch back to a dual installation of VS2013 and VS2015 just to be able to use the MSCCI Provider.

Please either fix the problem in the current setup and support VS2015 installations only
      OR
urgently remove the announcement that the current version supports VS 2015.

The current situation is absolutely misleading, i would not have switched to VS 2015 and have stayed with VS 2013 on that particular dev-box (worked well for me with 2013) if I would have known this before!

      Regards,
      W. ANdreas
    • I've done some digging and what is meant by this statement is that it works against TFS 2015 and Visual Studio Online. But it still depends on Team Explorer 2013 and when connecting to TFS2015 or VSO, it's recommended to install Visual Studio 2013 update 5 as well, so that Team Project Rename is correctly handled by Team Explorer 2013.
    • Hi Jesse,

thanks for the clarification, but I guess this is exactly what most of us guys already experienced.

The problem is that the first lines of the description page are misleading. The text made a lot of people uninstall vs/te 2013 and switch to vs 2015, just to experience a bunch of problems shortly after.

Please just remove those lines in the description are change them to a clearer explanation of the prerequisites.

      Regards,
      W. Andreas
    • ... and by the way:

What is in the planning for a version of the msscci provider that truly works with the tfs 2015 client object model and vs 2015 only installations?

      Regards,
      W. Andreas
    • I brought that issue, of the text on the homepage and the unclear wording of supporting
       * Visual Studio 2015 vs Team Foundation Server 2015

To the attention of the product group. I expect some updates soon. I do now know whether there will be a MSSCCI for 2015 itself. The fact that Microsoft is no longer shipping a stand-alone Team Explorer version for 2015 is probably behind this move, but I do not know for sure. What makes it, other than convenience, so important to use Team Explorer 2015? I suppose it would help if the need is made clear, so far I haven't had any issues running with Team Explorer 2013 and this MSSCCI provider.
    • The information on this page was incorrect. You need VS2013 to use MSSCCI with TFS and VSO.
    • I can give you one reason using VS2015 is important. It is that VS2013 and below corrupts VB6 code because it tries to re-format it as VB.net code if manually modified during check-in.
      See here: https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/043ad82e-8c02-4782-bbc8-4d7cf7bb0326/visual-studio-corrupts-vb6-files-when-merging-changes-for-tfs-checkin-with-manual-corrections?forum=tfsgeneral#043ad82e-8c02-4782-bbc8-4d7cf7bb0326

    • The recently updated 2013 version now also supports 2015. Download it again and that should work.
    • This is not true.
    • I confirm Andreas replay, Microsoft Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2013&2015 MSSCCI Provider 32-bit version 12.1.00402.0 does not works with VS2015 and TFS2015.
    • Sorry for the double post but I just read this thread and thought it might be better placed in here...

  • How do I specify the full URL of the TFS server?
    2 Posts | Last post March 12, 2015
    • My TFS server's URL (as used by Visual Studio) is "http://server:8080/tfs".

The Add Team Foundation Server box in this addin only allows server name, port number and protocol.

How do I append the relative path, i.e. add "/tfs" to the URL?
    • OK. I found that if I connect to the TFS server in Visual Studio first, it shows up in SSMS. But when I try to open a solution from a folder where I know a solution exists, I get an error "There are no solution or project files in this location. Please select a different location."

      I'm using SMSS 2014 and VS 2013.
