Poor, only ASCII support. Preview is blank for UTF8.

by yallie | August 28 2016

Great Markdown extension, but doesn't support tables.

by replaysMike | July 12 2016

This is a really good extension that I now use frequently. All of my projects contain .md files which is handy. My only wish list would be to include more color customization (preview window) or even better with a css stylesheet.

by Christian Soltenborn | March 05 2016

Exactly what I needed. It would be nice if the preview would jump to the actually edited area, and code (included in ``) isn't highlighted, but that's about all I'm missing.

by Maksim Volkau | January 26 2016

Exactly what I need to write md in vs without any non related bloat.

by dummlutz | December 16 2015

The preview page will not display correct if including other languages, such as Chinese, Japanese.

by Alek Davis | October 20 2015

I'm not sure how this extension works. It does not change the layout of a markdown file (I assume is supposed to be treated as markdown). When I click the View - Markdown Preview option, the windows displays the message: "Open a markdown file to see a preview." Well, is the only file I have open in the IDE. Frustrating.

UPDATE: Okay, saw someone else's review suggesting to re-open an MD file. This seems to do the trick, so bumping up the review.

This works quite well, with one small caveat.

If you have .md file open while installing the extension, it does not seem to recognize the already open .md files and appear to do nothing. I had to close and reopen the .md file for options to appear.

by kodekraft | August 18 2015

After more than half an hour of trying to get anything to happen at all, no success. After much digging I found a new menu option under View|Other Windows|Markdown, but the window that appears is blank even when editing a markdown file.

I uninstalled it after about an hour of wasted time.

Nicely highlights markup, only missing thing is lack of support of tables.

by bubibabubi | March 10 2015

i like this there toc plug in or function
my md file is too complicated

by Himura15 | January 23 2015

Please make the annoying panel at the top disablable! I need only highlighting from this plugin because we use extended md with html together and the rendereing mechanism is complicated. Your plugin will be great if you add more customizations. I promise to change my mark to 5 when you implement this simple suggestion. And do something with the link color.

Works pretty good. The only drawbacks are image support (no relative path makes it impossible to store images on source control) and links opening in the preview window, instead of the default system browser or at least a new VS panel.

  • Linking to another page's anchor
    1 Posts | Last post August 22, 2016
    • Linking to an anchor works great
      <a name="test">hello</a>
but, I can't figure out how to link to an anchor on another page
      <a href="">ok</a>
      don't work.
doing gives me "Navigation to the webpage was canceled" with either of those.
      Really liking the extension otherwise!

  • doesn't appear to be working in my vs15upd2 install
    1 Posts | Last post April 19, 2016
    • I applied this extension previously to various vs15upd1 24720 installs and it worked fine.
I just applied it to a couple of vs15upd2 25123 installs and it doesn't appear to be presenting the toolbar when I open a *.md file that allows me to preview markdown in sideXside or floating window view.
Is it know to work with vs15upd2 installs and if so am I perhaps missing some configuration step or UI element to get that toolbar back when viewing *.md file in ide?

  • UTF-8 Support

    • I was wondering why some languages did not display well in preview, although you have the utf-8 tag in your default HTML template. on second sight i found the mistake you made. It is dead simple, since there is an escape before the last quotation mark, utf-8 is not interpreted correctly. So you need to change:
      <meta charset="utf-8\">
      <meta charset="utf-8" />
I guess that was a typo from typing to fast :D
  • Link color
    8 Posts | Last post December 29, 2015
    • I can't find where to change link color. It's totally unteadable in dark theme. Somewhy, it is not and not
    • If it isn't markdown.url.inline, it could also be visual studio's URL highlighting. I forget what that one is called, and I don't have VS handy.
Here's the full set of declared markdown formats, if that's helpful:
    • Thank you for sources. Now I can customize your plugin according to my needs.
    • The color I need is markdown.url.inline. It is not in the properties window for some reason.
    • I've managed to compile the extension with .NET 4.5, but it crashes when a markdown file is loaded... In fact, I have never worked with VS extensions before and even don't know how to build targeting 4.0 at VS2013...
    • It probably doesn't show up because I didn't give it a UserVisible(true). I don't remember if I did that on purpose or not. Sorry :(
Not sure about why it would crash in VS2013 when you rebuild it. Debugger may help to figure out what the problem is.
    • Hi Noah,
Any chance you could add the UserVisisble(true) property to the classifier format for markdown.url.inline?
    • I can definitely do that. Can you also check locally to make sure that works correctly (you see it, and changing it actually affects the text color)? I have some hazy memory about not making it visible because the VS url highlighter color would win.
