Excellent works very well

Compiling works ok, but there's one major issue - upon first run on the project, when .css and .min.css files don't exist, it ALWAYS crashes Visual Studio. When these are present, everything works as expected.

Thanks for your quick reply!
Well I have tried Sassy 2013, but has one major issue. I have a Core.scss that imports 2 scss files. The first is a lib.scss which has many mixins. The second is the main css file for the project:
@import 'lib';
@import 'main';

While I am saving-compiling the main.scss its always fails because it cannot find the mixin files from the lib.scss. The only way I have found to resolve this is to save each time the Core.scss file.
Any tip would really help!

do you have lib.scss or _lib.scss? And second question is do you want lib.css + core.css or do you just want core.css?

If you want just core.css, then rename lib.scss to _lib.scss and that should resolve the problem.

Code highlighting and CTRL+K+D formatting is all I wanted, and SassyStudio delivered. Perfection.

Excellent extension. This is packed full of nice options. I like where you can have the comments added to the output where the values originated from. This is really nice as I learn SASS. I am using VS2013 Update 1

Great for sass editing and compilation!

It is a little buggy. After installation, Visual Studio 2012 continued to crash each time I saved changes to a SCSS file. This happened after I deleted the min CSS files ([filename].min.css) associated to each SCSS file. After deleting all the SCSS files and starting again, this time leaving the min.css files there, all seemed ok. Changing the setting in Options seemed to have no effect. Frustrating and bit of a nuisance.

The best Sass extension for Visual Studio. Don't pay for other extensions that don't work as well. This is superior (and free). Highly recommended.

Handy extension for sass. Happy to have my ctrl K + D and block comment abilities. Some extensions like to take those away *glares*. Keep up the awesome work!

I would like to see the 'exception info' on the 'Output' window rather just see like
[Exception]Compass returned an error.
at SassyStudio.Integration.Compass.CompassDocumentCompiler.Compile(FileInfo source, FileInfo output)
at SassyStudio.Editor.GenerateCssOnSave.GenerateCss(DateTime time, String path)

Also would like to see if you can integrate LiveReload with this extension

I just released an update that will give the error output from compass when it fails, so you will have better error information in the output window. Thanks for the feedback!

Also, could you head over to github and give me some more information on what you are wanting with LiveReload and I can look into adding support for it.

The best SCSS editor available for VS

by Nathaniel Bagnell | September 17 2013

First, let me say thanks to the creator for taking the initiative of this. I believe it's long overdue though I haven't had the experience to develop Visual Studio extensions to do something.

I'm liking the highlighting, though I would love the CSS IntelliSense for the standard CSS/CSS3 properties. In addition, as discussed in the Q&A, code formatting and things of the like would be great too.

If there was a way I would give this 3.5, but I had to round up to 4. Looking forward to more improvements, thanks again!

This has been added as of 0.7, but intellisense is still experimental so you have to manually enable intellisense in the options

  • SassyStudio Configuration
    3 Posts | Last post August 21, 2015
    • I've just installed SassyStudio on VisualStudio 2015. However, I am not able to locate neither SassyStudio tooblbar, nor anything where I can configure my instance of SassyStudio. Please, help locate it in VisualStudio. P.S. I do have ruby etc installed.
    • I don't believe there is a SassyStudio toolbar. If you go to Tools -> Options... -> Sassy Studio -> General you will find all the configurable options for Sassy Studio. Compile occurs on save (if you configure it to do so). I don't believe there is a way to tell it to compile on demand.
    • Thanks, Blair! Yes, I found it installed. However, there is another prob here. SassyStudio doesn't generate any .css files, whether I set the path to output directory or not. Any idea why? Cheers!
  • UNC Path Support
    1 Posts | Last post August 18, 2015
    • It seems SassyStudio (or the internals it depends on) does not support UNC paths (e.g. \\myserver\WebProject\Content\Sass\file.scss). If I map my solution folder to a network drive (e.g. E:\Content\Sass\file.scss), it works just fine. Can this be fixed so I don't have to map drives for my many projects?
      Otherwise this extension looks fantastic! Good work!
  • Solution folder
    1 Posts | Last post July 06, 2015
    • Hi,
      It seems that SassyStudio doesn't detect change on scss files in projects that are located in a solution folder. There is a solution to enable detection?
  • Choose destination
    4 Posts | Last post May 23, 2015
    • This plugin is a winner, but not sure how to tell it to compile to a different destination (ie, not in my SASS directory). Thank you.
    • currently in the options you can specify a top-level directory to put the output in, (for example, if you had directory \content\sass and put css in that option, then you'll get output in \content\css). right now project specific destinations is not supported.
    • Hey Darren, Where are these options? Can't seem to find them.
    • This is working for me but it also leaving the same files behind and adding them to the VS project. So I end up with a copy under CSS and a copy under scss. The ones under scss get added to VS the new ones under CSS do not. Any ideas?

    • Is it possible to run the css generation from a command line?
      I am currently using another tool to gen our scss and want to automated the creation of the css with out having to open and save each scss file.
  • Unicode characters
    2 Posts | Last post May 11, 2015
    • Having issues when generating CSS with unicode characters.
      In SCSS - content:'\25B2'; or content:'▲';
      In CSS it turns out as - content: "â–²";
    • Ah seems like it's a known SASS issue
  • Map file not included in project?
    1 Posts | Last post April 16, 2015
    • Having the map file in the project would make it possible for me to use this extension. Any chance this could be added?
  • Line Numbers, Scrollbar Map?
    2 Posts | Last post April 02, 2015
    • In Visual Studio 2013 Update 5 SassyStudio works great, but it will not show line numbers and it turns off the scrollbar code map.
      SassyStudio seems to disregard all of the scss settings that are already in VS2013.
      Is there anything I can do to get line numbers?
    • You'll want to use SassyStudio 2013. This version and VS tend to fight over the settings since 2023 had is own editor stuff for SASS
  • CSS Gen Output Directory nbot working?
    1 Posts | Last post January 19, 2015
    • I updated the CSS Generation Output Directory to be css (which exists at the top level of my project), but anytime anything is in that field - it seems to stop building the css/css min files. Am I doing something wrong? This is for VS 2013.
