Great product, lots of resources, rapid responses to questions, actively updated, lots of support options.

This is a great tool for anyone doing development - especially since it does not require a full "buy-in" to their framework - you can use what you want and only that.

It promotes MVVM without requiring it, supports multiple client platforms (android, IOS, etc.) and it makes it fairly easy to get started as all the basic building blocks are in place and tested - by the people who wrote it and all the developers who use it.

Unable to install it on VS 2011 Beta - get the following error message:
'This extension is not installable on any currently installed products.'
Any idea what may be missing?

The version you had doesn't support VS11 beta. As it turns out, there is actually some funky stuff going on with VS11 and how it handles solutions so we had to do some extra work to make the add-in work with VS11 solutions (it actually has to do with templates that are available that throw things off). Anyway: We have now done that work, and the version I am just about to publish fixes that problem and you can install the extension in VS11.

Fantastically productive MVVM framework for WPF. Can't wait to see the rest of the Milos stuff get ported, especially the WCF Services stuff!

  • Unable to find extension in Visual Studio
    5 Posts | Last post September 30, 2014
    • When I attempt to search for and install the Code Framework extension in Visual Studio (Express 2013), I come up with no results. Have you removed the extension?
Do you have the templates available for download somewhere?
      Thank you,
      Steve Gibson
    • More info...this vsix file throws an error when trying to manually install in VS Express 2013.
"This extension is not installable on any currently installed products."
Unzipped the file and attempting to manually get it working.
    • OK, got the templates unpacked/installed, and registered the DLL's in the GAC. It is working now.
    • Hello!
Unfortunately, Visual Studio Express doesn't support these types of extensions, so there is nothing we can do to support the Express version. You can still use the DLLs of course, but you can't us the templates and integrated tools.
Note: There is no need to install these assemblies in the GAC. Just add them to your project locally. In fact, I would advise against putting them into the GAC.
    • Hello Markus, by installing the DLL's for the templates (CODE.Tools.Templates.dll and CODE.Tools.Templates.WPFUI.dll) in the GAC, I was able to use the templates. Is there another way I could have accomplished this, or is this something I shouldn't do?
  • Problem with Service Implentation project
    3 Posts | Last post March 18, 2014
    • Hi Markus,
I'm getting an exception when trying to add a new Service Implementation project. I have already added a Service Contract project with no problems (didn't modify it at all, kept all the defaults). But, as soon as I try to add the Implementation project, I get an exception:
"The parameter is incorrect. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070057 (E_INVALIDARG))"
Any idea what the problem might be? I'm using the latest version of the extension templates (4.0.20704.0) and the latest version of the CODE Framework DLLs (4.0.21017.0). Could it have anything to do with the fact that the Framework itself is a later version than the extension templates? (You updated the Framework pretty recently, about a week and a half ago.)
      I'm using VS2010, SP1.
    • It turns out, this particular problem was based on a combination of things. SDKs installed. Templates installed. Exact solution structure.
Anyway: Today's release fixes this problem! :-)

  • Express Editions

    • The templates does not get installed on machines only with VS2010 express edition. Is there any reason for relying on professional editions alone?
    • Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn't support extensions for the Express editions of Visual Studio. So this is a Microsoft decision, not ours :-(
