I installed these Power Tools mainly for Color Printing. And the results are fine for me! The Color Printing - Known Issues in the description say what might be a problem and how to solve it (line numbers, font size, ...).
Thanks for the update. I don't like how you enabled the "Custom Document Well: Sort by Most Recently Used" feature by default. I didn't realise at first and was very confused why my tab kept jumping to the top when I clicked on it. At times I can be clicking through multiple tabs very fast to find something so you can see how this can become confusing rather quickly. Unfortunately this is the only thing I use Power Tools for so you can see why I have such a strong opinion on this :)
I installed it in order to print source in color, but unfortunately it doesn't work. So I tried to print to "Microsoft Print to PDF" and "Microsoft XPS Document Writer", but it renders corrupt files.
A Microsoft rep said that printing in color was not possible back when VS 2010 was being built due to project time constraints, and it's 2016 and VS still lacks this super important feature, especially in controlled environments where I work for where everything has to be documented. So, at the end of the day small community groups end up doing it for themselves, but I haven't find one that really works.
I'm totally frustrated by this. If someone from the Microsoft VS team reads this, PLEASE enable source code color printing!!! This is what users are usually looking for when it comes to printing source:
- color coding - line numbers - file name - page X of Y - alternating slightly darker line backgrounds
I had to disable the custom document well because it occasionally places VS 2015 into a cycle where the well switches to a single row, the tabs immediately grow and cause a change to two rows, and so on. I have to close visual studio from the task bar.
Hi, couldnt find out how to report a bug so im writing here instead...
Im using 4 tab groups to show my files, some of the files are pinned and some are not. When resizing main window or opening/closing files, the remaining file tabs have their layout updated which means some files are on the same row and some are moved to row2, row3 etc. The bug is that sometimes a file is moved to row2 and then back to row1, then back to row2, row1, row2,row1... in an endless loop, rendering VS2015 unresponsive.
This also happens to another of our programmers who uses VS2015 + Productivity Power Tools.
Disabling the "Custom Document Well" solves this problem and the bug appears to be gone.
If this is the wrong place to post bug reports, please point me in the right direction.
Edit: As im actually writing a review, I might as well say that this extension is amazing (except for the bug above) and after started using it, I cant see myself ever going back. I disabled it for a while to confirm the bug was indeed inside the extension and not VS2015 itself and I felt completely crippled. If you havent already, download and use it, you wont regret it!
I just downloaded and installed the latest version. Color Printing does not print anything in Windows 10. I had to turn off Power Tools printing and go back to all black text to get Visual Studio 2013 to print.
splendid addition of features that just seem natural. and are now a requirement on any machine I use. the color coded tabs to differentiate which project you're in within alone makes this a useful addon, and thats only one of the many things it does.
I have the productivity power tools for visual studio 2010 installed on another computer that has VS2010 and it works great. When I received my new computer I added VS2013 to it and decided to install Productivity Power Tools 2013 as well as ReSharper. It has not gone well, the first time loaded a file and tried "find all references" VS went into an infinite loop with the scroll indicator moving up and down in a continuous cycle. After a week of work, the same infinite loop returned. Luckily, VS was able to recover my work (I now save often). Tabs no longer remain pinned. Where is the option to show pinned tabs on a separate row? I assumed that the Tools 2013 contained Tools 2010 but they do not work the same. I can't trust Tools 2013, so I disabled it. When I have the time I'll disable ReSharper and enable Tools 2013 to see if there is a conflict.
I really wish I could hide the pin on the custom document well. I keep it along the left side of the screen and pretty wide so my full filenames are always easy to scan and select. I absolutely never use pinning, and it takes up precious horizontal space in my editor.
Other than that, dang this is a great add on. Thanks team!
There has a customer who installed this extension for Visual Studio 2013, then the Print feature doesn't work in his Visual Studio. After uninstall, the Visual Studio can print again.
The detailed discussion for this issue, please refer to following thread.
Hi, previously it worked well on the same machine and same software versions, but after reinstalling Win8.1 and VS2013 it started crashing VS when PPT Document Well Place Tabs is set to Left or Right (Top and Bottom does not cause problems) and you Pin some documents, then switch to the pinned document, then switch back to unpinned document and VS crashes and restarts. Does anyone encountered such problem? Can't get the error message and don't know where to search for the crash logs. Please answer ASAP.
Using Open Command Prompt, a new window opens stating, "Setting environment for using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 x86 tools." This is an older machine, Windows 7 x64 and does have VS2010 installed. Can this run the VS2013 vcvarsall.bat instead?
+1, if only to bump this up the list. FWIW, after a bit of spelunking I can find nothing which explains *why* it's choosing the VS2010 environment
(I have VS2008, VS2010, VS2012 and VS2013 installed on this PC; in an ideal world, the Powertoy for each version would open a shell configured for that version. Yes, I have to build legacy C++ code thankyouverymuch)
In one of the reviews, someone was trying to get pinned tabs to show in a separate row. In 2010, this used to be a power tools feature but now it seems they've moved the option into General > Environment > Tabs and Windows.
1) Please follow VS option "Environment\Tabs and Windows\Tab Well\Insert new tabs to the right of existing tabs", since PPT doesn't have its own option for it and changes this behavior.
2) Please make Dirty indicator show at left of file name in Tab, since long filenames make Dirty indicator to be hidden due to Maximum tab size.
Still regarding item (1), I've found out that it was due to options PPT\Custom Document Well\General\Sorting (both "Project" and "Alphabetically" were checked). But I remember to have unchecked those options before. I can't restart VS now to be sure, but there's a possibility that they're not being persisted.
it seems that the organize and sort usings doesn't handle different casing well. I get the following:
however what I would expect is something like
I use this a lot, but now its conflicting with stylecop analyzers. :(
I cannot find the TFPT.exe file after installing Power Tools 2013.
Some basic info:
Server software = server 2008 R2
Visual Studio 2010
Power Tools 2013
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I am trying to export to XML or any format for that matter.
