A bit slow, but overall very light and does the job.

For people complaining about color themes, a string extraction from the extension and a bit of fiddling with VS parameters gave the following style names:

LessComment - comments
LessKeyword - property names
LessString - property values
LessVariable - @variables
LessDelimiter - delimiters and operators (braces, colons, commas...)

That's not perfect but it should be largely enough to have a legible experience with any color theme.

Does what it says on the tin. Would be much nicer if it provided some configuration options, such as not automatically compiling to css, or not auto-completing braces. Also when it automatically creates a css file, it doesn't add it to the project.

Edit: much worse than that, if you have a syntax error in your LESS file, it just silently doesn't bother updating the CSS file. Spent ages trying to figure out why it wasn't working anymore. Some error output would be good.

Does not work with dark color schemes. The syntax colorization should follow the same rules as standard CSS, so that swapping color schemes for any alternative (light or dark) will work as expected.

I'm forced to go back to Web Workbench free edition and suffer ads for pro (which I would upgrade too, but can't use for internal workflow reasons).

Works great, especially it's the only light option out there.

Intellisense works even when having Resharper, although it's triggered only when you write the first letters of a valid value, and doesn't include variables, mixins, etc..

Also needs slight improvements, like providing a way to change colours for people using dark backgrounds, and maybe a way to change default formatting (for people having open brackets at the end of the line, etc..)

One last thing, would be great to have the ability to turn off CSS generation as well. I'm using it in a project where some other tools takes care of that in different path, and I had to add .gitignore file to the files generated by the extension.

If you're using an inverted color scheme - do not install. There's no way to change CSS selectors color from default which is dark red.

Works as advertised :)

Provided Syntax Hilighting on Nested Classes and understands and provides Intellisense with Variables and Mixins. There's collapsable sections and it works great with base64 data in the url. Most importantly it doesn't mess with the fonts so there is no page flicker everytime you edit a line. Combined with SimpLESS 1.3 its given me a working solution to dev time generation of my CSS. I'm Loving it. There does tend to be a more noticable lag which is a little behind the typing especially when used with other extensions the mark up the UI such as Web Essentails which also adds a bit of lag.

Good extension and glad support was added but the inability to properly set all colors and a few exception errors after only a few minutes of work has left me craving for more. I do appreciate your efforts however!

Good extension but lags when editing code. Very lags...(
And very usefull that after saving file *.less complile to *.css.

Lately it's been running a little slow. Otherwise it's a GREAT product. Just looking for more efficency in processing how fast I type.

When it works, it's wonderful, but it periodically just deactivates for reasons that I haven't yet been able to pin down.

Finally! Been wanting this extension for months =)

A feature that would be cool is to be able to either expand the @import and look at the content, or being able to open the file by clicking on it some way.

And the @import coloring is a bit hard to read I think.

Keep up the good work! :)

  • Syntax Highlighting

    • Great extension. How do I change the colour of the "selectors" syntax highlighting? its a dark red and I cant read it :( I've looked in fonts and colours, but i cant see the option for it.
    • I second that. Impossible to work and I can't find the setting name. Why is it dark red??
    • LessComment - comments
      LessKeyword - property names
      LessString - property values
      LessVariable - @variables
LessDelimiter - delimiters and operators (braces, colons, commas...)

    • just installed the extension and got this error. here is the log in the ActivityLog.xml:

  • Lags after a while
    1 Posts | Last post June 12, 2012
    • After a while of using it really starts to lag. Restarting VS helps, disabling/enabling the plugin helps a bit more. Any chance this can get fixed?
It's been a year this was updated so will there be an update or could the code get up on GitHub so someone (me?) can submit a patch.
  • How to disable autocompile
    2 Posts | Last post June 08, 2012
    • I use another tool to compile the less file into css. Is it possible to disable the autocompile feature of LessExtension somehow?
    • I agree. It's especially annoying if you're using includes. Plus, dotless isn't up to date.
  • Work in VS2011
    1 Posts | Last post February 23, 2012
    • To get it to work in VS 2011 edit the vsixmanifest inside the extension (to get to it simply rename the download from Less.Extension.vsix to Less.Extension.zip), and add a corresponding entry for VS2011.
  • Encountered an Exception?
    1 Posts | Last post January 30, 2012
    • Hi Nissen,
I installed the Extension and the moment I create a less file and type a letter, I get an error message that says that there has been a possible exception in the extension. I was unable to get things to work. Any help?
      Thanks in advance!
  • Stops Working?
    1 Posts | Last post December 15, 2011
    • Has anyone else had problems with the extension apparently just turning itself off (not highlighting .less files when they're opened), and staying inactive until it's been disabled and re-enabled? I've got Chirpy installed if that's relevant, but I'm not sure what could be causing this.
  • Disable autocomplete
    6 Posts | Last post November 14, 2011
    • Is it possible to create this extension with disabled autocomplete? I'm using chirpy extension for compiling, but I really like your syntax highlighting.
    • Same here. It's really great for highlighting, I just want to use Chirpy to control the .css file's name and location.
    • I will add it to my todo list
    • Is it possible to change the colors for this extension? It's really hard to read with a dark color scheme
    • very nice extension. would it be possible to add the following:
.less file type for the "Add New Item" menu
      icon for .less file type
if you are busy and can not get to these (and above requests) could you start an open-source project so that others can help out, this is a really good extension and I would like to see it progress.
    • I'll add my vote here, and note that I use Combres for compiling. There are lots of projects that manage files for different needs, but this would be awesome as a pure syntax highlighting extension. Thanks for your hard work!
