Looks great.
Sometimes it's difficult to find where i am now, but with this extension it's easyly to navigate in code.

I've used this extension for years and couldn't live without it.
Great work on this. :)

  • Can't install on Visual Basic 2010 Express
    2 Posts | Last post July 15, 2016
    • I tried installing V14 (VS2010) but it gave me an error that said it could not be installed on any currently installed program.
    • Yes, v14 does not support VS 2010. You should visit the CodePlex page linked from the top of the description to find an older version that does.
  • New release?!
    5 Posts | Last post May 07, 2016
    • The latest release is almost a year ago and there have been important fixes in newer commits that still aren't released after months. How long will you retain those fixes? I'm offering a custom build on my VS recommendations website but it would be nicer if I could just point to the official release. Should I publish a tested and stable custom build of your code in another extension in this gallery?
    • Thanks for the prodding - I've been busy with the rest of life and hadn't noticed just how long since the last update.

      There's been enough usage of v15 Beta 3 that I'm confident to release it, though there are a couple of bugs I want to quickly diagnose to see if I can fix them first. Hopefully I'll get the update out in the next week or so.
    • Okay, one week may be a stretch. The main reason for v15 is to significantly improve the performance, which I've done, but without restoring full functionality (when using non-default settings, which is why most people haven't noticed). I'm working on that, but I won't be publishing another full release until it's done, and depending on the changes it may need another beta.
    • You're welcome. :-) I've just been trying to find out which version I'm using exactly, but I couldn't find my sources right now. Might be on another machine. I think it was based on v14 release with the additional commit b3465dc only (from 2014-07-26). That would be none of the optimisation things you've done for v15. I'm not sure how good that works but I'd consider the appearance bugfix from that commit important enough for a release. Maybe 14.1 or something. And frankly, I never noticed any performance issues with this extension. Sure if I open a file with 20000 lines it's slow, but that could be anything and is far from recommended anyway.
    • I just put up v15 Beta 4 on CodePlex, mainly so I have a chance to test it with Visual Studio "15" Preview before I make it public in probably 2-3 weeks.

      It'd be great if you can check that the issues you care about are fixed now.
  • Brackets on same line
    2 Posts | Last post April 30, 2016
    • What if I used to code like this?
      if (a = b) {
          //do stuff
      } else {
          //do other stuff
      }
      It behaves strange with brackets on same line. If you put caret before opening bracket after else, it will highlight all if-else structure.
    • Technically, it's highlighting the entire block that contains the if-else structure. Since the line with "} else {" starts at a regular indent, the previous one is highlighted.

      It's important to bear in mind that this extension does not understand code at all - it only looks at where text exists. This is why it works well with all languages. If you only care about C#, there are other extensions that only work for C# but will take into account what the code says rather than simply the indentation.
  • Indent Guide didn't work
    2 Posts | Last post April 02, 2016
    • Hi, recently it didn't work. I don't know why. I tried to disable other extensions, just enable Indent Guide & tried to reinstall. But it still didn't work.
      Please help me to solve it.
      Thanks you so much!
    • I'm sorry. I solved it.
  • TypeScript has weird indents
    2 Posts | Last post January 30, 2016
    • I've posted an image here: http://i.imgur.com/boP9DPy.jpg

      Indents are a bit off for TypeScript
    • That may be a difference between the indent size setting (where the lines go) and the tab size setting (where files with tabs align to). Check Typescript's Text Editor settings to see if that gives you any hints.
  • Wrong Indent Guide with Word Wrap
    1 Posts | Last post November 16, 2015
    • When the first line currently in view is a word wrap line, the Indent Guides really mess up
  • Conflict with Always Aligned extension
    1 Posts | Last post November 08, 2015
    • I really like your extension, it helps me visualize the code structure. However, I'm also using another extension, Always Aligned (https://www.alwaysaligned.net/), which dynamically changes the width of tabs. This means that the lines created by Indent Guides don't match the real indents.

      It would be nice that Indent Guides could adapt to dynamic widths. If I remember correctly, the lines created by Productivity Power Tools do adapt, but I like your extension more since it's more customizable.
  • Indent lines to heavy
    2 Posts | Last post October 26, 2015
    • Hi, I found that the line are to "heavy" for me, too much visible on a white background.
      I'd like it to be lighter in color, they should be visible but not in your way when you don't need it.

      I think that Notepad++ is perfect, and I checked the color and it's #C0C0C0 while your is #B4B4B4.
      Maybe even lighter, because VS itself is more lighter in text compared to Notepad++.
      The best choice would be providing a setting page to personalize the color of the dots (that would help people using a different color scheme to).

      Thank you.
    • If you look under Tools, Options, Indent Guides you'll find all the customisation you want. (The reason the default is dark is so it works well with the dark theme - I haven't implemented different defaults for each theme.)

    • Is it possible to use Indent Guides for VS Community 2013?
    • Apologies for the delayed response - yes. VS Community is fully supported and can run any extensions you like.
